The Promotion She Stole — Chapter 2
Maya worked three years for a promotion. Her manager gave it to her rival instead — but the celebration dinner revealed a secret no one expected.
Priya's celebration dinner was the following Thursday at an expensive rooftop restaurant downtown. Daniel had invited the whole team — "to celebrate our bright future," he said.
Maya almost didn't go. But something told her she needed to be there.
Halfway through the main course, Daniel stood up, wine glass raised. "To Priya," he beamed. "Whose fresh perspective is exactly what this company needs."
Maya felt her phone buzz in her lap. A message from an unknown number: Check the company drive. Folder: "Q3 restructuring." You're welcome.
Her fingers trembled as she opened it under the table. What she found made her look up at Daniel with an expression he would remember for the rest of his career.
The folder contained the promotion justification memo — the real one, not the sanitized version HR had filed. And at the bottom, in Daniel's own handwriting on a scanned note: "Give it to Priya. Her father sits on the board. Maya gets a raise to stay quiet."
Maya stood up slowly. Every head turned. She had the floor now — and this time, no one could take it from her.
